Last week we had my cousin Dixie and her boyfriend Colin staying with us. One of the absolute highlights for me was spending time with them wasting away an afternoon sitting by the Serpentine in Hyde Park. The restaurant sits on the edge of this iconic lake in London and is described as a celebration of rural beauty in an urban landscape. Absolutely gorgeous. If you go to Hyde Park make sure to stop by for lunch or a drink and soak up the atmosphere. Love!! www.serpentinebarandkitchen.com

On Sunday morning we packed up the kids and headed east. In a few hours we visited a city farm (Hackney City Farm… free & fab), saw part of the Regent’s canal, explored the oldest Flower market in the city & then picnicked in the park eating gourmet sandwiches. I love it when a non planned day comes together.

On Sunday June 3, 2012 we celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee in perfect English style. At the time I had my friend Caroline & her hubby Ben staying with us. So we decided despite the terrible weather we could try to venture down to the Thames in the pouring rain and see the now infamous flotilla. Who knew we might even see the Queen.
Before we left the house I hosted a Jubilee high tea which included lots of union jacks and yummy British favourites. After munching on fancy sandwiches of coronation chicken & scones with clotted cream infused with earl grey and limoncello & then washing it all down with Lansen’s limited edition jubilee champagne and Twinings special jubilee blend we donned our wellies and brollies and bide farewell to a sleepy Keaton and Stephen Jimmy.

We then headed by tube to London Bridge tube station which is one stop south of the river and is directly beside Borough market. Once we got up to the surface we weaved our way behind the market to a place that I had viewed many times before on bikes rides and thought it would be a great spot to catch a glimpse of the famous occasion. As we walked to the river we could hear people singing Rule Britannia & God save the Queen and it seemed as if every church bell in London was ringing. The best part as luck would have it as we arrived at the riverbank everyone was cheering because the Queen’s barge was passing in front. Great timing!!!! Despite the rain and deary weather the crowd was full of lovely and helpful people who made the experience even more memorable. A few strangers even offered to hoist Mimi on her shoulders so she would get a better look. What a great memory for her and for us.

On Thursday I hosted Mimi’s 6th birthday with 17 of her closest friends. This year’s theme was a Mad Hatter tea party. Definitely the most fun I had was prepping and decorating for it. After years of putting it off, I finally learned how to make pom poms ala Martha Stewart.
